Butterflies Day Nursery
Opened in 2008 and is run by myself and a well-trained team of Nursery practitioners and assistants.
It is a purpose-built facility with large open plan spaces, there are five rooms spread over the ground floor of the building. At Butterflies we aim to create a warm and nurturing environment in which children can be physically and emotionally safe. A place in which all staff respect each child’s individual needs and value each child’s ability to reach their full potential and develop confidence in their own possibilities. With our setting using sensory and open-ended resources to build the children’s curiosity in those everyday things around them and how they can be used to fulfil their individual schemas. Play is not seen as something which is done alongside learning but is the learning.
“Play is the highest form of research"
We have five rooms Poppy, Daisy, Bluebell, Buttercup and our Sensory room.
The four flower rooms are not age specific but more centred around an individual child’s needs and development both physically and emotionally.
The Sensory room is for all to share and is also used when Debutots (Interactive Storytelling and Dramatic Play group), Music with Mummy (Music classes encouraging listening and social skills) or Zoo-lab (Animal handling workshops) visit the setting.
We use the Early years Foundation stage within the setting to help guide us on tracking the children’s development.
The Tapestry system is used to be able to document snap shots and observations in real time. Building our information for future planning.
The large gated garden compromises different areas with natural grass, digging spaces and an Astroturf area which can be used in all weathers.
The setting has a fully working kitchen with a full time cook, who uses the ‘Eat better start better’ and the 2017 Healthy eating guidance from the government to create healthy and well-balanced meals, which include and cater for all dietary requirements.
We also have our own allotment area.
The setting is open from 7am until 6:30pm Monday to Friday, 51 weeks of the year.
