Transitions
Coming into the setting – We offer taster sessions which are 1.5 hours long. These sessions are free of charge and we recommend you have at least 2 sessions, but you can have more if your child needs more time to settle in.
These sessions are an important time for information sharing and they are key to making those first relationships with the team. Each room differs in terms of session times and the way the sessions are carried out but they all have the same goal, to support you and your child through the transition into the setting.
Moving into a new room - We would never begin your child’s transition up to the next room until we have spoken directly to you and you agree and are happy for the transition to begin. The transition would then happen in stages; firstly your child’s key worker would take your child up to the next room for one hour to allow them to get to know the new surroundings. On this first initial visit it would be the perfect opportunity for the key worker to share all information about your child with the new room. The key worker would then assess how the first hour taster session went and would then discuss with you how to then move forward. If the first hour went well the next step would be to either have another hour the following week or to go straight ahead and trial a half a day session in the new room, bearing in mind the child can return to their original room if any upset or discomfort occurs on the taster. The sessions will gradually build up to what sessions the child attends the setting until they are eventually fully transitioned to the next room.
Every child is an individual which means every transition is different. There will never be one way of making a transition; it is unique to the child.
